Dirt Divas & Mickey

Helena is made for mountain biking. That is why every year there is an event called Dirt Divas that turns 100+ women loose on our trail system to master their mountain bikes. This year Mara and I went and Tara and Liz joined us from Billings. All of us are at different levels of experience and skill and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. The morning was spent doing basic skills on a bike in a big open field, then lunch and an afternoon on the trails in groups of 8 with 2 instructors. I can't say enough how great it was. I highly recommend it!

After a long day of riding, we were given free beer. Then we did what anyone would do and had more beer at the local Blackfoot brewery. (I swear I took off my helmet at some point).

When we got back to the house, I had a little surprise waiting for me from Chad. His name is Mickey!
The story is, I went to look at cats at the local shelter last week after realizing it's just nice having a furry friend around. When I was there the only cat I liked at all was a 12 year old male named Mickey, but I was there to just look so I didn't get him. Plus I wondered if I really should get a 12 year old cat!

Mickey is a love. This is all he wants to do, sit on your lap and be loved. He is mellow, and sweet and doesn't want to go outside, which is good because we decided no outside cats while we are in this apartment on the busy street.

And let's face it, if he is going to die soon it might as well be with us instead of a shelter! I guess his owner went in to a nursing home and couldn't have him so he had to go to the shelter after 12 years with the same people. We like our new little furry friend. So far he is getting more used to us too.

And the last news of the day: We signed on our lot tonight! We then went out to the land and got everything plotted out. Whew, it's been a busy last couple of days!

Oh how fun! Was it bike training? Teaching you new skills? Beer makes the perfect end to any day, and then a kitty to top it off. Hizza to you :) I bet Mickey is a nice filler-inner for Lops, on a more mellow level.

YAY! I love the biking story (wish I could get into more stuff like that). Love the free beer especially.

And as a cat owner who had to find a home for her lovee when HE was too old for most, I absolutely adore that you adopted an older, affectionate kitty. I'm so glad he gets to be with you instead of a shelter, and if his owners knew, their hearts would be happy too. I hope they get to know...

Anyway, that's the secret cat lady coming out in me!

Yay for girls only kicking bike on the mountain! Kudos to all who went and tried it!
Mickey sounds like a great cat. How cute of Chad to surprise you with one! He must have loved Lops too! an older Mickey sounds like a great age to have a cat, and he is handsome!

A new kitty, a new land purchase - how exciting!

Also, yesterday Smith asked, "Mom, when we die does God come and take us to Helena?" Then later on, he told me that he's storing his crane and backhoe at some friends' house in Helena. I'm not sure where he gets this stuff but it makes me laugh. :)
